Friday Night Sew-In 'Progress' and Day #27 of Blogtoberfest!

Wow - its October 27th already - and I've managed to stick with Blogtoberfest almost all the way to the end - only 4 more days until the end of this years Blogtobefest.

Last night was the Friday Night Sew-In hosted by Crafty Vegas Mom and Handmade by Heidi and I was able to get a large majority of my Christmas table runner pieced together while texting back and forth with my step-sister, Sherry who lives a few provinces away.  Sherry has a Blog and does some pretty amazing stitching, her Etsy store has some super cute stuff, I'm really partial to the Owl Pillow Case.  She promised that she would teach me how to stitch (its not like I need another hobby, but I really want to learn how!!) and I will help her as much as I can learn how to quilt.

Getting back to my table runner - I managed to hack up my charm square, piece it all together and I've got almost all the squares squared up - that's tonight's project.  Then tomorrow it will be more sewing and hopefully I'll have the top done in a night.  I think I might try my hand at some free motion quilting on this runner - its small enough that it should be easy to maneuver and I figure I gotta start somewhere!

I haven't laid the squares out in any kind of order to take the pictures, I was just lining them up to see how they are all going to look together - its super cute!  I used the Flurry by Moda Charm pack - and WOW is sewing ever easier when you don't have to cut a ton of fabric up to get your little squares that you have to cut up more!

My cheat sheet to make sure that I was sewing the right rectangles and squares together.  Its amazing how easily it is to forget what I need to sew if I don't have a guide of some kind in front of me - or am I the only one that does this?!!

Friday Night Sew-In is over for October and I'm looking forward to Novembers Sew-in.

Tonight Miss S has been invited to her very first friend Halloween Party that she is super excited to go to - pretty quick the princess dress will be donned and I will be whisking Cinderella away in her Chariot (the van) to the party.  I hope she has a good time, its just for the kids and I will be dropping her off at the door and heading home for a few hours - shes growing up so much and so fast - I'm not sure I'm ready for this!!!  ;)

Friday Night Sew In - I actually Sewed!!

Another Friday Night Sew In is in the books and thankfully I got to work on a little bit of my Eye Spy quilt (I wrote this last night but fell asleep before I posted it, hence why I keep saying tonight instead of last night throughout the post).

I left Baby C (whos almost 5 months and not so little anymore!) to sleep on Daddy while he watched the Barrett Jackson Auction on Tv for a little bit so I could get a little bit of sewing done in the peace and quiet and I can honestly say that an hour of quilting was EXACTLY what I needed to get my head on a little straighter.  I've been feeling horribly guilty for not touching my sewing at all in what feels like months but between finishing a basement, Christmas, a family vacation to Disney World for 10 days and life with three little kids it seems like sewing is beyond the last thing that I can find time for.  Being able to sit down and get even a little bit of sewing done (I got an hour in before Baby C needed mommy for food) was so awesome.

I think my major downfall when it comes to sewing is that I tend to 'wing it' a little too much - tonight was no exception.  I'm the type of person that wants IMMEDIATE SATISFACTION and I want to see the finished product after I've been working on a quilt for 5 minutes.  Rather than sitting down and doing the math for how many squares I need to do each part of the quilt I did a few of each step so I could see how its going to turn out.  Sometimes it works, and sometimes it bites me in the butt.  Tonight thankfully I only screwed up on one square (and really whats a quilt without at least ONE screw up?!?!  ;)) and since its an eye spy quilt I figure it will blend in, or I'll just put it somewhere near the bottom and hope the kids don't notice!

I got a whopping 8 squares done tonight, its more than what I've done in the past month so I'll take it.  Hopefully I'll be able to sit down and get some more sewing done this weekend - its good for the soul.

Its Friday Night Sew-In Tonight!!!

Yippie!!  Its that time again - time for the Friday Night Sew In hosted by Crafty Vegas Mom!

I haven't sewn in a long time (as I hang my head in shame) but tonight I'm hoping to get going on my Eye Spy quilt for my kids.  Miss S and Miss L helped me lay out some random patterns for it before Christmas so I have a good idea of how I want it too look.  Now I just need to hope and pray that my girls go to bed at a decent time tonight so I can get some sewing in!

On a different note we just got back from Disney World earlier this week so I'm hoping to upload some pictures from our trip and my maiden voyage to Joanns!  Is it sad that hitting a Joanns was on my list of MUST DO's when we were in Florida?!  I showed some serious restraint since I could have bought half the store although I'm kicking myself for not taking advantage of getting a few AccuQuilt Dies that were on sale for 25% off.

Anywhoo.  Time to get some stuff done around the house so I have some time free tonight for my Sew In sewing to take place.

Friday Night Sew In -

Last night was the Friday Night Sew In.  I managed to get 5 more rows of my Tumbling Rubies quilt sewn together and ironed before my sister came over and we watched Paranormal Activity 2 (and screamed TWICE and woke the baby up!).  I was hoping to get the whole quilt top done but I never pass up a chance to eat chips, watch a movie and hang out!

I'm really loving how the quilt is turning out so far - even though my 'random' pattern produced not one but two tumblers that are matching up in two separate rows.  Oh well, I guess that helps add to the overall look.

I have 8 rows sewn together and another 7 more waiting to be squared up and sewn on.  I was hoping that 15 rows would be enough but I think it will be a super small lap quilt with only the 15 rows total since I'm not thinking about doing borders.  Like everything I do without a pattern, I'm wiging it!  So I might have to add a few more rows once I get the 15 that I already have sewn put together.  I'll make that call when I need to cross that bridge.

And for a nice Saturday morning funny break:  This is what happens when you bust out the camera with my four year old......

At least she asked permission to make a face before she did it!
